STILLWATER - Charles S. Moose, 79, of Hudson Ave, died peacefully on October 9th at Ellis Hospital from complications of Lewy-Body Dementia, with his caring and devoted family at his side.

Born in Albany on December 29, 1937, he was the son of Carlton A. and E. Marie Townsend Moose. Charlie was a graduate of Milne High School in Albany and had received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music from Potsdam State College.

Charlie started his career as a music teacher for Rushville Central School, moved to the Amsterdam BOCES program and ended his teaching tenure in Schenectady City Schools, moving between several schools within the district. His love of teaching carried throughout his life; he mentored many students on the organ and accompanied several solos for the NYSMA.

Born with a natural instinct for music, Charlie learned to play the organ at a young age. He played for St. Andrews Episcopal Church and The Cathedral of All Saints, both in Albany, the Albany County Correctional Facility, Trinity Episcopal Church in Potsdam, 1st United Methodist Church in Rushville, St. John’s Church in Johnstown, the 1st Reformed Church of Scotia and finally the 1st Reformed Church of Schenectady.

He was a highly regarded organist, with just some of his accomplishments including accompanying the Saratoga Potsdam Chorus at SPAC for 15 years, as well as accompanying the Schenectady Choral Society, the Mohawk Valley Chorus, the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society, and the Schenectady Men’s Chorus. Charlie proudly played on three separate occasions with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

A member of the Stillwater United Church, he also enjoyed traveling with his family and pursuing his lifelong interest in trains.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Susan Robinson Moose, his daughters Jeanne (Michael) McGonagle of Reading, MA, Sue-Ellen (Brandon) Bethmann of Delmar, and Emily (Daniel) Nadler of Stillwater, and his grandchildren Caleb, Adelaide, David, Elliott, Cooper, Henry and Benjamin. Charlie was predeceased by his infant twin Jane Moose.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. A memorial concert celebrating some of Charlie's favorite pieces of music will be held at the Stillwater United Church on Sunday, December 3 at 3:00 PM.
