MECHANICVILLE - Kenneth J. Rooney, 65, of Broadway, died Wednesday, October 18th at Schuyler Ridge, Clifton Park, following a 5 year fight against rectal, lung and brain cancer. Born in Albany, May 23, 1952, son of the late John and Stella Kwiatowski Rooney, he was a 1970 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Albany. He later received his B.A. in History from Siena College and had proudly completed the History Honors Program there.
Kenneth was involved in sales for most of his life, working as a Sales Manager for Passonno Paint and American Seal Paint, both in the Capital Region. He was also a Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, Saratoga County and the Head Aquatics Director at Camp Saratoga. A scout himself, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a long time participant of the program. He was also a member of the Italian Fraternal Society in Mechanicville.
Ken was an avid reader, a history buff, and enjoyed yard work, gardening and helping his neighbors, especially in the winter. He was also a NY Giants and Yankees fan.
In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his in father/mother in law, Michael and Carmella Festa D’Amico and his brother in law, Carmen D’Amico.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lucy D’Amico Rooney, whom he married on June 12, 1977, his loving daughter Carolyn Rooney of Mineola, Long Island, sister Patricia(John) Neuffer of Cazenovia, sisters in law Dolores D’Amico and Carolyn(George) Hannah, niece and nephews Gina Hannah, Patrick Bush, Michael D’Amico, Matthew(Scott) D’Amico, and George Hannah Jr.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Monday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 510 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Kenneth J. Rooney.
