MECHANICVILLE - Jay S. Masterson, 56, of Farm To Market Rd, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 18th at St. Peter’ Hospice Inn, with his loving wife at his side. Born in Troy, July 20, 1961, he was the son of Joan Denton Masterson of WA and the late John Masterson. A 1979 graduate of Tamarac High School, Jay most recently worked as a chemical operator for Momentive(GE Silicone) in Waterford for 25 years. He proudly served 4 years in the US Army while being stationed at Fort Riley, KS.
An outdoorsman, Jay enjoyed being out in the open air, whether it was on his motorcycle, fishing, target shooting, spending time at Cossayuna Lake, off-roading in just about any type of vehicle and especially “ridgerunning” out in the back roads with his boys and friends. Spending time with his boys was an essential part of Jay’s life. He also enjoyed the views up on Slide Mountain, hosting back yard barbeques for family and friends where he captained the charcoal grill, and hanging out with friends at the Mill, the Nail or the Legion. He was a longtime member and past 1st Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 91, Mechanicville. Jay also had a passion for his Camaro, keeping it in pristine condition and enjoying traveling the open road.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years and love of his life for the past 20, Jolene Graham Masterson, whom he married June 19, 2004, his sons Nick(Lena Phillips) Masterson of Pittstown and Mitch(Betsy Marr) Masterson of Troy, brother Robert(Kathy) Masterson of Pittstown, and sister Debra Masterson of WA as well as sisters/brothers in law and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jay’s family would like to extend special thanks to the St. Peter’s Hospital staff, especially the nurses on 5 McCauley, Jo, Liz and the staff of the Hospice Inn.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 20 from 4-7PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Funeral Home Service on Saturday the 21st at 10AM with military honors and burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
