Obituary for Harold T. Carknard

MECHANICVILLE - Harold “Rusty” Carknard, 82, of Mid-Rise Apartments, N Main St, passed away peacefully at his residence in the company of his family on Saturday, July 29th, after a brief illness. Harold was a proud Korean veteran, serving in the Army as an Airborne Ranger reaching the rank of SPC 4

Harold was known to his family and friends as “Mr. Fix It.” He was known to fix anything. Harold did auto repair on the side and worked as an auto mechanic for many years working for Gilligan Buick, Troy and for Newell Brothers, Cohoes. Harold also enjoyed riding his moped throughout the area. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Valley Falls

Survivors include his sister Shirley Boyce of Melrose and many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his siblings, the late Vincent, Leroy, Chester, Stephen Carknard, Rita Geren and Mari Wood.

Harold’s family wishes to send a special thank you to his friend and caregiver Sue Feilds along with Community Hospice of Saratoga.

A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, August 2nd, from 10-11:00am at the DeVito Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Service will also be held onWednesday at 11AM at the funeral home with military honors and burial to follow in Saratoga National Cemetery.
