MECHANICVILLE - Filomena Anatriello Fiacco, 87, of Round Lake Ave., died Monday, February 13th, at home, in the loving company of her family.
A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born December 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Mattia and Lucy Cavotta Anatriello.
Fil spent her career in nursing working for the Albany County Nursing Home as well as in industrial nursing with G.E. Silicone, Waterford. She had also spent time at many of the area hospitals and as a private duty nurse for some time.
Fil and her husband Chet ran the former Baxter’s Tavern on Saratoga Ave where she became known for her famous homemade pizza and worked there even after selling it until its closing in 1986. She was known for her phenomenal cooking skill who always had food on the table for anyone who visited, along with a shot of brandy, of course. She enjoyed her garden, especially growing garlic, and loved her time on the slot machines.
Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Anthony J. “Chet” Fiacco, who died this past March 26th as well as her son Michael A. Fiacco in 2012. Although her loss comes with great sadness for her family, they are comforted to know that Fil and Chet will have never missed a Valentine’s Day together.
Survivors include their sons: Gerard (Heidi) Fiacco of Orlando, Fla and Anthony (Larissa) Fiacco of Mechanicville, grandchildren: Michele (Andrew) VonHaugg, Michael (Cassie) Fiacco, Jr., Camryn and Anthony Chet Fiacco, great grandchildren Briella, Luca W. and Michael Fiacco, and Luca B. Fiacco. Also her siblings Anthony “Taw”(Lillian) Anatriello of Schaghticoke, Marie Zappone of Halfmoon, Kenneth”Colonel”(Helen) Anatriello of Clifton Park and Matthew “Mert”(Mary Lou) Anatriello of Mechanicville along with several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by brother Gaetano Anatriello and sister Michaelena Kaempfe.
Fil’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many friends and family who have been there for her the last few months. The overwhelming support they have shown has helped to keep Fil in great company and will never be forgotten. Also to Dr. Stephen Sgambati, Jr. for his never ending support, friendship and amazing care and the Community Hospice for their compassion and care.
