Obituary for Gerald J. Petronis

Gerald J. Petronis
STILLWATER - Gerald “Jerry” Petronis, 74, of Hudson aVe., died Friday, Dec. 23rd at Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Stillwater, Nov. 6, 1942 son of the late Anthony “Butch” and Myra Aldrich Petronis, Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Stillwater High School. Jerry proudly served his country with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.
A computer analyst with G.E. Corporate in Albany for many years, Jerry also had worked earlier for the NYS Dept. of OGS for 10 years.
For 40 years, Jerry was a baseball and softball umpire, former President of the Upstate NY Umpires Assn for 12 years, a member and past commander of American Legion Post 490 Stillwater, a huge NY Giants and SF Giants fan.
Jerry was a founding member, lead actor, director and producer of the Stillwater Players Among Others acting group, beginning with their first play “Birth of a Town”.
He loved fishing and gardening, and was proud of his homegrown Horseradish, which packed a wicked punch. He was a longtime accordion player, who always preformed for his large family gatherings and for many Polish celebrations.
Jerry was truly his large family’s JESTER, always ready with a quick quip or an aside for all, he enjoyed family and friends camaraderie, and enjoyed life. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia Lea Travis Petronis, daughters Jacqueline (Christopher Place) Ruth of Colonie, Tiara-Layna “T-Bones” Brown of Stillwater and Tressa Petronis of Stillwater, grandchildren Anjel and Kyle Ruth, Ryleigh and Tatum Place, Hayden, Noah and Ian Brown, Joshua and Carson Monell, and the late Hannah Monell. Also step children: John Robens of Stillwater and Ashley (Alex) Robens of Arizona, along with a number of cousins and their families.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:30 at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to American Legion Post 490, Stillwater.
