GANSEVOORT - Alfred L. Cameron, 88, of Gordon Lane, died Friday November 18th at The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation following a short illness. Born in Green Island, NY on April 28, 1928, he was the son of the late Leonard and Florence Marr Cameron.
At the young age of 17, Al left high school in 1945 to serve his country during WWII until his honorable discharge at wars end in August 1946. Proud of his service but unwilling to forego his education, Al finished high school and later attended Russell Sage College for a short time.
Alfred worked as a silicone operator for G.E. Silicone in Waterford until his retirement in 1988.
A hard worker both at work and around the house, Al liked to go fishing, was a tremendous accordion player and enjoyed relaxing when he had a chance. He will forever be remembered by the way he was able to capture his grandchildren’s attention with the great stories he would tell them.
Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Greeley Cameron, whom he married on March 16, 1951 as well as his children; daughter Sybil(Raynald) Chevrier of Easley, SC, sons Bruce and Robert Cameron of Ganesvoort, grandchilkdren Catherine Cameron, Nate Chevrier and Angela Rennick, his great grandson Rece Dyer and several nieces and nephews.
Sadly, he was predeceased by his son Richard Cameron, siblings Walter, William and Raymond Cameron, Frances Bishop and Florence Wait.
Burial at Memory Gardens will be private and held at he convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Alfred L. Cameron.
