Obituary for Edward C. Coon

Edward C.  Coon
STILLWATER - Edward C. Coon, 85, of Lake St., died Tuesday, Nov. 1st at VA Medical Center, Albany, after a lingering diabetes illness.
Born in Mechanicville, Oct. 31, 1931 son of the late William and Katherine Coon, Ed served with honor in the US Army in Korea in 1952-53. He received the Combat Infantry Badge for his combat action.
After returning home, Ed went to work for the former Grand Union Warehouse in Waterford, for 42 years until the warehouse closed in 1995.
A 50+ year member of Post 490 American Legion of Stillwater, Ed enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, and loved the company of his children, his many grand and great grandchildren, and the peace of his home.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Mary Johnson Coon, his grandson Edward Jesmain, son-in-law Phillip Gaudette and siblings Alice Carp, Mabel Richardson and William “Bud” Coon.
Survivors include children: Janice (Bob) Jesmain, Patricia Gaudette and Sheila (Bill) Ontkush all of Mechanicville, Nancy (Bruce) Bussing, Carol (Geoffrey) Brewster, Edward (Annette) Coon, Jr and Daniel Coon all of Stillwater, 22 grand, 29 great grand and 3 great great grandchildren, along with his faithful canine companion “Rocky”, many nieces, nephews and their families.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday evening at 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours will precede at the Funeral Home from 4-7 PM. Burial with military honors will be held Friday at 9:30 PM at Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
