Obituary for John B. Hmura

John B.  Hmura
MECHANICVILLE - John B. “Jack” Hmura, 79, of Burke St., died unexpectedly Tuesday, May n8th at Albany Medical Center.
Native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Jan 2, 1939, son of Joseph and Katheryne Fisher Hmura, he was a grad of St. Paul’s Parochial School and 1956 grad of Mechanicville. After serving with the US Air Force from 1959-62, Jack worked for the New York Central RR Co., then the former West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co, closing in 1971 and lastly worked and retired from the General Electric in Schenectady as electronics tech.
A hobbyist, Jack played with radios, was a camera buff, and had an extensive model train layout and collection. He enjoyed fishing and boating, along with riding his motorcycle. He loved all sports, called the Mets, Jets, Patriots and UConn women’s basketball his favorites. Along with his late wife, he helped operating a number of Connie Mack, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth youth baseball programs.
He was an active member of All Saints on the Hudson Church, Mechanicville.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Mary DeVito Marks Hmura in 2005, and his sister in law Thelma Hmura in 2016.
Survivors include his brothers: Joseph “Paul” Hmura, Jr. of Mechanicville and Frederick “Bill” (Patty) Hmura of Florida, stepdaughter Helen (Ron) Rose of Mechanicville and step son Peter Marks along with their families. Also a number of nieces and nephews including Catherine Nelson, Michael, Joseph and Gerald Hmura and Margaret “Peg” McChesney and their families.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 6:30 PM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St, Mechanicville. Entombment to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the North Main St. Church on Friday from 4-6:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made Mechanicville Community Services Center’s Food Pantry program.
