Obituary for Joseph A. DeMarco

MECHANICVILLE - Joseph A. DeMarco, 84, of Washington Ave, Pruyn Hill, died Monday, July 10, at Samaritan Hospital after a short illness. Born in Mechanicville, February 6, 1933, he was the son of Anthony and Angeline Friello DeMarco and brother of the late Frank, Robert and Anthony “Woody” DeMarco.
A Mechanicville High School Graduate, Joe joined the US Air Force serving honorably for 4 years until his discharge in 1956. While proudly serving his country, Joe flew around the world with his squadron creating a lifetime of memories.
Upon returning home, he began his working career as a gas station attendant at the former Cocozzo’s Garage in Mechanicville where he worked for over 30 years. He also worked for the NYS Dept. of Labor in Albany as a Statistician Clerk until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement from the state, Joe found a new passion working at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, where he respectfully and proudly served thousands of the members of his community during their toughest times. Joe recently retired after 25 years as a funeral home assistant.
A hard worker, Joe worked just as hard around his home as he did at his jobs. Countless hours tending to his yard, and especially his treasured garden, year after year he passionately prepared his beds for garlic, tomatoes and herbs along with other items. He also enjoyed fishing, jigsaw puzzles and watching the NY Yankees along with most other sporting events. Of all his accomplishments in life, Joe was most proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and their many accomplishments academically and athletically.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Girard DeMarco, whom he married on October 19, 1963, his children and their spouses, Anthony(Jennifer) of Stillwater, Kenneth(Carol Ann) and Joseph(Jodi) DeMarco of Mechanicville and Laurie(John) LeClaire of Stillwater ; grandchildren Colby and Maya DeMarco, Morgyn and Kierra LeClaire, Austin, Trevor and Kali DeMarco and his nephew Frank “Buck” DeMarco of Stillwater along with many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 13th from 4 -7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Home service conducted by his friend, Rev. Clyde McCaskill, will be held on Friday the 14th at 10AM with military honors and burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Joe in a special way may donate to the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871 in his memory.
