Mary Lou  McDonald (Flanagan)
MECHANICVILLE - Mary Lou McDonald, 82, of Dewey Ave., died Monday, December 5th, at Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, January 16, 1934, daughter of the late Basil and Veronica Flanagan, Mary Lou was a graduate of St. Paul’s Parochial School, Catholic Central High School Class of 1951 and Mildred Elley. Before raising her children, Mary Lou worked for General Electric in Schenectady. After raising five children, she worked at the College of St. Rose in Albany for 15 years, various local businesses such as Dr. Clark’s Dental office, CVS Pharmacy and DiSiena Furniture. Wherever she worked, she brightened everyone’s day with her pleasant helpful ways and ever present smile.
Knitting, sewing, flower gardening and keeping her home were things she enjoyed. Most important were caring for and enjoying the company of her loving family. Throughout her life, she communicated her love for faith, family, friends and life itself.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Crescent.
Survivors include her faithful husband of 62 years, Paul H. McDonald, her devoted children: Paul T. (Michele) McDonald of New Hartford, NY, Mary Rose (David) DeMarco of Waterford, Karen (Edward) Woomer of Media, Pa., Suzanne (Jafar) Choopani of Miami Lakes, Fla and Kathleen Fabi of Mechanicville. She also loved and nurtured Tracy and David Fay, 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Flanagan, and sister, Cecilia Morris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church Crescent, 86 Church Hill Rd, Crescent, with burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Mechanicville.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Friday from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of one’s choice in memory of Mary Lou McDonald.
