MECHANICVILLE - Lawrence “Murph” Murphy, Jr., 68 of Sirchia Road, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 12th at Albany Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Born in Troy, June 10, 1948, son of Geraldine Gaudette (Ken) Smith of Gansevoort and the late Lawrence Murphy, Sr., Murph was a 1966 graduate of Stillwater High. In 1966 Murph enlisted in the US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seabees, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, honorably discharged in 1968.
Murph last worked a heavy equipment operator for Witt Construction of Saratoga Springs, and had previously worked for Bonded Concrete and earlier the Boston and Maine Railroad.
A sportsman, Murph enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends, was a member of the American Legion Post 490 of Stillwater.
Being with his family and friends were some of Murph’s most treasured memories.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife of 39 years Diane Sirchia Murphy, his beloved daughter Nicole Murphy (Patrick) Benware of Stillwater, his two treasured grandchildren Aubrey Jillian Murphy and Wyatt Murphy Benware, a brother Robert Murphy of Quaker Springs, his faithful in-laws Mary Jo (John) Urkevich of Clifton Park, RoseAnn (Michael) Butler of Mechanicville and nieces Jenine (Casey) Klippel and Allison Butler, along with many cousins, neighbors and friends.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Monday evening at 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville.
Burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Tuesday at a time to be announced.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4- 7 PM.
